Sunday 6th September – Jack Pugh Memorial – The Clamp
2 of the designated pegs were out of action today for safety reasons and so pegs 2 and 14 were put in. These are not great pegs due to the depth being only around 2 feet at best. With only 9 fishing the match, those that were drawn at the bottom end of the lake were more likely to frame, as turned out to be the case. A big F1 for Tony Welsby in the first few minutes left everyone else playing catch-up.
Results:
1st – Tony Welsby – Peg 10 – 10.06.0
2nd – Jason Pitman – Peg 9 – 4.00.0
3rd- Andy Gard – Peg 7 – 3.09.0
Sunday 30th August – Ken Davis Memorial – Margaret’s Lake
We had 11 anglers turn up for this annual memorial match held on a very low Margaret’s Lake. The lake appears to be at least 2 feet below normal levels, and so a serious amount of rain can’t come soon enough. Overall, the weights were relatively low, with several anglers finding bites hard to come by. Carp were needed to boost weights as the silvers didn’t really show up in any numbers.
Results:
1st – Steve Sewell – peg 5 – 41-03-0
2nd – Andy Gard – Peg 6 – 39-07-0
3rd – Paul Preston – Peg 14 – 35-05-0
Top Silvers – Tony Welsby – Peg 8 – 13-03-0
Sunday 23rd August – Bert Elson Memorial – George’s Lake
All available pegs were taken for this annual memorial match fished on George’s Lake. Despite there being a carp-only match the previous day, the weights were very good. At least on one side of the bank, with 123lbs from peg 1 taking the first place prize.
Results:
1st – Tony Welsby – Peg 1 – 123-05-0
2nd – Steve Sewell – Peg 4 – 58-01-0 (Top silvers payout)
3rd – Jason Pitman – Peg 6 – 51-04-0 (Second by default)
3rd – Andy Gard – Peg 18 – 37-06-0 (Third by default)
Top Silvers – Steve Sewell – Peg 4 – 17-13-0
Section A – Steve Brown – Peg 3 – 28-01-0
Section B – Mike Read – Peg 19 – 30-05-0
Sunday 9th August – Club Match – The Clamp
We had just 9 members turn up for this match. The forecast was for another hot day, so perhaps that had some bearing on the numbers. The lake was well down and there was an unpleasant-looking scum on the surface of the water. The shallow pegs nearest the car park were left out and so pegging started from peg 4 round to peg 12.
Results:
1st – Jason Pitman – Peg 11 – 7-06-0
2nd – Tony Welsby – Peg 5 – 7-05-0
3rd – Kev Murch – Peg 8 – 5-10-0
Sunday 2nd August – John Treasure Memorial & Invitation
We had 17 anglers attend this one, in memory of our former and late president, John Treasure. The weather was a little cooler than the previous week, but with water levels well down, our lakes are crying out for rain. Despite the low levels, the carp are still showing in numbers, especially on Georges Lake, where several double-figure fish were caught, mostly by one angler… Kev Murch.
Results Margaret’s Lake:
1st – Pete Watkins – Peg 17 – 76.05.0
2nd – Andy Brookman – Peg 10 – 44-01-0
3rd – Tony Cook – Peg 13 – 43-09-0
Top Silvers – Mike Nicholls – Peg 8 – 18-07-0

Top Silvers – Bill Knight – Peg 13 – 14-02-0
Sunday 26th July – Ian Chapple Memorial – Whitehouse Farm
18 anglers booked in for this one, and 17 fished due to one having to pull out before the draw. Both lakes were in action and both produced some good weights from several pegs. Noted pegs on George’s Lake were pegs 1 and 17, both of which produced nets in excess of 100lb. The match raised £200 for Cancer Research. Thank you to all who took part.

Sunday 28th June – Summer Match – Margaret’s Lake, Whitehouse Farm
We had 11 anglers competing in this match, which was held on Margaret’s Lake. After 3 days, on which temperatures exceeded 30ºC, the fish were a little slow to respond, but sport did improve in the latter part of the match. The cooling wind on the lake surface probably helped, although it was at times quite annoying, especially for those fishing with long poles.
Results:
1st – Bill Knight – Peg 14 – 43-06-0
2nd – Jon Amato – Peg 13 – 25-04-0
3rd – Jason Pitman – Peg 15 – 18-11-0
Top Silvers – Steve Sewell – Peg 9 – 9-04-0
Sunday 14th June – Charlie Coggins Memorial – The Lido
With only 7 anglers competing, it was a very poor turnout for this Lido match. The weather was mainly overcast and very warm, which makes for ideal tench fishing conditions. Needless to say, tench were the main quarry today, with around a dozen being caught from various pegs. A few carp put in an appearance too, although only 3 were actually landed.
Results:
1st – Bill Knight – Peg 7 – 33-06-0
2nd – Jason Pitman – Peg 5 – 22-07-0
3rd – Steve Brown – Peg 6 – 14-04-0
Top Silvers – Tony Welsby – Peg 1 – 20-01-0
Sunday 31st May – President’s Shield – Margaret’s Lake
We had 15 anglers turn out for this one, on what was a much cooler day than the previous Sunday. The fishing was slightly better, with everyone catching fish and the carp were much quieter now, having spawned. However, it was noticeable that no anglers from peg 4 down to peg 10 caught a single carp.
Results:
1st – Kev Murch – Peg 14 – 54-09-0
2nd – Steve Brown – Peg 18 – 17-04-0
3rd – Steve Sewell – Peg 11 – 17-03-0
Top Silvers – Paul Preston – Peg 16 – 9-04-0
Section A – Jon Amato – Peg 8 – 8-08-0
Section B – Jason Pitman – Peg 17 – 14-09-0
Sunday 24th May – Taylor Shield – Margaret’s Lake
The forecast for today was for very hot weather with temperatures hitting around 30°C. That was just a little too much for many fish, who refused to feed, resulting in 5 of the 12 anglers not weighing in, although they did all catch. The better weights came from the bottom end of the lake, where pegs that offered some partial shade performed best.
Results:
1st – Clive Hewson – Peg 5 – 38-08-0
2nd – Bill Knight – Peg 12 – 29-06-0
3rd – Jason Pitman – Peg 13 – 22-02-0
Top Silvers – Tony Welsby – Peg 4 – 8-00-0
Section A – Paul Preston – Peg 9 – 14-00-0
Section B – Mike Reid – Peg 10 – 13-00-0
Sunday 3rd May – Pete Polly Memorial – George’s Lake
This time, there were 12 anglers in attendance for the Pete Polly Memorial match, which was once again held on George’s Lake. With memories of the previous match still fresh in everyone’s minds, there was no reason to think the lake would fish any better. However, there was a slight improvement in overall weights despite a lack of silvers and a couple of DNWs registered on the weigh sheet.
Results:
1st – Bill Knight – Peg 6 – 44-06-0
2nd – Andy Gard – Peg 1 – 23-07-0
3rd – Jason Pitman – Peg 18 – 19-15-0
Top Silvers – Mike Reid – Peg 10 – 15-00-0
Section A – Pete Watkins – Peg 5 – 15-11-0
Section B – Tony Welsby – Peg 12 – 9-10-0
Saturday 25th April – Saturday Shield – George’s Lake
With just 11 anglers booked in, the match was restricted to George’s Lake. There was a slight frost first thing and then the sun came out and stayed out for most of the day. The lake fished rock hard and carp were needed to frame.
Results:
1st – Jon Amato – Peg 1 – 29-11-0
2nd – Steve Sewell – Peg 12 – 14-12-0
3rd – Mike Reid – Peg 17 – 12-10-0
Top Silvers – Steve Brown – Peg 5 – 13-08-0
Sunday 19th April – Jack Davis Memorial – Lido
The Lido is not everyone’s favourite match venue as it can be quite ‘peggy’, with just 4 or 5 pegs that regularly produce consistent weights. Then there is ‘suicide straight’ AKA ‘cyanide straight’, where nobody wants to draw due to the depth (up to 18 feet) and lack of fish. So, we had 12 turn up for this one and, as expected, the fishing was patchy at best, with 5 of the 12 not weighing in.
Results:
1st – Kev Murch – Peg 12 – 24-10-0 (Inc. 2 carp)
2nd – Jason Pitman – Peg 6 – 12-10-0
3rd – Tony Welsby – Peg 7 – 7-05-0
Top Silvers – Andy Gard – Peg 3 – 11-00-0
Section A – Jon Amato – Peg 1 – 2-05-0
Section B – Bill Knight – Peg 11 – 4-00-0
Sunday 22nd March – Rover Match – Margaret’s Lake
With the number of competitors down to just 14, the match was confined to Margaret’s Lake. After a cold start, the fish were slow to respond, although a few carp did show up from various pegs throughout the day. Very few skimmers were caught and so most of the silvers weights consisted of F1s and roach.
Results:
1st – Andy Gard – Peg 5 – 43-06-0
2nd – Tony Welsby – Peg 14 – 26-03-0
3rd – Andy Brookman – Peg 17 – 25-13-0
Top Silvers – Jason Pitman – Peg 11 – 7-05-0
Section A – Kev Murch – Peg 7 – 6-15-0
Section B – Steve Sewell – Peg 12 – 8-14-0
Sunday 15th February – Winter League #6 – Margaret’s Lake
After a sudden cold snap on the Friday and Saturday before the match, prospects of a big weight looked highly unlikely. As it turned out, the carp refused to feed and the silvers were in very short supply, resulting in 4 DNWs. Needless to say, weights overall were very disappointing. However, winner of the Winter League for 2025/6 was Jason Pitman, who put in consistent performances over the series. Second place went to Tony Welsby, with Steve Sewell finishing in third place.
Results:
1st – Steve Sewell – Peg 8 – 3-01-0
2nd – Kev Murch – Peg 14 – 1-08-0
3rd – Jason Pitman – Peg 15 – 1-02-0
Top Silvers – Bill Knight – Peg 10 – 1-03-0
Sunday 1st February – Winter league Round #5 – George’s Lake
After the previous Sunday’s poor results on George’s Lake, the 12 contestants fishing this round were not looking forward to this match. However, weights were very much better than expected, with a few carp showing from some of the fancied pegs.
Results:
1st – Peg 19 – Tony Welsby – 50-08-0
2nd – Peg 18 – Jason Pitman – 17-12-0
3rd – Peg 3 – Mitch Sewell – 16-02-0
Joint Top Silvers – Peg 4 – Steve Sewell – 2-03-0 & Peg 5 – Bill Knight – 2-03-0
Section A – Peg 1 – Clive Hewson – 0-13-0
Section B – Peg 17 – Pete Watkins – 13-00-0
Sunday 25th January – Winter league Round #4 – George’s Lake
It was another tough round on a lake full to the brim with ice-cold water, with an icy East wind blowing over the surface. Bites were very few and far between with some anglers not catching all day and others getting a few vital bites in the last 30 minutes.
Results:
1st – Peg 14 – Alan Oram – 3-04-0
2nd – Peg 11 – Tony Welsby – 1-04-0
3rd – Mitch Sewell – Peg 1 – 0-07-0
Top Silvers – Peg 16 – Jason Pitman – 0-15-0
Section A – Peg 3 – Kev Murch – 0-03-0
Section B – Peg 17 – Bill Knight – 0-05-0
Sunday 11th January – Winter League Round #3 – Margaret’s Lake
14 hardy souls turned up for this Winter League match, although some of the contestants were “stand-ins” for those who couldn’t make it. It proved to be a tough day for most, with a pre-match ice-breaking session necessary before anyone could wet a line.
Results:
1st – Peg 15 – Steve Sewell – 5-12-0
2nd – Peg 13 – Kev Murch – 4-15-0
3rd – Peg 11 – Andy Brookman – 1-07-0
